The Village presently maintains 14 Gateway Signs along roads entering the Village limits. In 2023, the Village replaced 12 of these signs with new signs that reflect a new design and constructed a new sign at the entrance to the Village along southbound Roselle Road at Central Road. The new signs feature the Village logo and LED backlit lettering of the words “Village of Schaumburg Progress Through Thoughtful Planning”.
Staff is now planning to construct another new sign at 1580 E. Algonquin Road (the former site of Frankly Yours). The Village purchased this property in 2023. This sign will be placed at the southeast corner of the site and visible to north westbound traffic on Algonquin Road and to northbound traffic on Thorntree Lane.
In order to expedite this project and begin construction this season, staff purchased the sign directly from Parvin Clauss who fabricated the 13 signs installed last year. The cost of this medium sized sign is $23,940. Subsequently, staff forwarded the new design plans to F.H. Paschen Construction to secure Job Order Contract Pricing through the National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance for the installation of the sign foundation, masonry facework, electric and water connections, landscaping, and irrigation system.
Staff has reviewed the F.H. Paschen proposal with their estimating team, and we believe that F.H. Paschen’s proposal covers the scope of the project. F.H. Paschen’s total cost as proposed is $167,291.85. The budget includes $205,000 for the construction of the new sign. Based on the sign cost of $23,940, the remaining available funding is $181,060.
Construction is expected to begin early September with substantial completion by end of October.
