Staff is seeking formal approval to dispose of 21 vehicles and six pieces of equipment designated as retired or surplus in the Fiscal Year 24/25 Vehicle Replacement Schedule. Per Village Policy 7.40, vehicles that are fully depreciated and/or due for replacement due to age, mileage, condition, and operating expense are identified and recommended for disposal.
For the Fire Department, the Engine (10963) was sent for a re-life instead of being replaced brand new and will remain in service. For Engineering and Public Works, there is one anti-ice system (E408) which is not functional without Truck 31 or 32, which are approved to be replaced. Our plan is to auction one of these trucks with that anti-ice system.
Staff considers the surplus vehicle and equipment as a trade-in with the purchase of a replacement. However, if a trade-in is not possible or if a trade-in does not yield an acceptable return value, it is included in the vehicle online auction at publicsurplus.com where other surplus vehicles are auctioned off to yield the highest residual value.
